The Iron furnace in Ålshult

1634 was the year Ålshult Iron furnace opened up. A Dutch couple, named van Gent, started the business and produced iron-works for many intrests. Alot was shipped back to the Netherlands where van Gents family was involved in the East India Company. One product was for example cannon balls.

The reason the furnace was situated in Ålshult was due to accessible Iron ore in the surrounding lakes.
