Fire prohibition around Åsnen

A special fire ban applies around Åsnen. From April 1st to September 30th, it is not allowed to light fires, either on islands or on land.

Fire prohibition

Between April 1st and September 30th, it is not permitted to light fires, either on islands or on land.

It is allowed to cook food on a portable stove, grill at the designated barbecue spots in the national park, and at certain campsites or prepared barbecue areas such as those found at campgrounds. It is also permissible to use a camping grill, with charcoal/bricks, that stands on legs and cannot transfer heat to combustible surfaces. You are not allowed to build your own fire pits; use only approved fire pits. You must not take bark or wood from living trees or otherwise damage nature and land. Respect landowners and prevailing regulations.

Even at designated barbecue spots, it is crucial to exercise good judgment and refrain from lighting fires in, for example, windy conditions. A small spark can cause forest fires and great devastation. Forest fires spread quickly, and besides significant land damage, there is also the risk of harm to animals and people. Help us take care of the beautiful nature and wildlife around Åsnen by following the fire ban.

During high fire risk due to drought, there may be an enhanced fire ban, which could mean that all fires are prohibited. This is announced by the County Administrative Board, and information can be found here: Current fire bans in the county.

Fire Safety

  • Before grilling or lighting a fire, check if an extended fire ban is in effect.
  • Use only approved barbecue spots and fire pits, and avoid lighting fires if it is very dry and windy.
  • Maintain distance: Place grills at a safe distance from vegetation, buildings, and other flammable materials.
  • Have extinguishing equipment on hand: Make sure you have access to water, a shovel, or a fire extinguisher to quickly put out a fire if necessary.
  • Never leave the fire unattended: Ensure the fire is completely out before leaving the site. Use plenty of water and stir the embers until they are cool.
  • Inform others: Spread information about the forest fire risk to family and friends so that more people can help prevent fires.
  • If you see a fire spreading or suspect a forest fire, do not hesitate to immediately contact emergency services by calling 112.

Download the app: Brandrisk Ute

Brandrisk Ute is an app from the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (Myndigheten för samhällsskydd och beredskap). It helps you stay informed about fire risks in forests and open lands. The app can show the current fire risk for your location and provide forecasts for the coming hours and days.

Please note that even if the app shows a low fire risk for the Åsnen area, the fire ban from April 1st to September 30th always applies.

You can download the app from the App Store and Google Play Store.

Emergency Number 112

In case of an emergency, contact emergency services immediately by dialing 112. Downloading the 112 SOS app is a good way for SOS to determine your location, which can be difficult if you are not familiar with the area. Once you have downloaded the app, allow it to access your location services on your phone.

For international guests, the 112 App (with a red logo) is a great alternative as it offers language adaptation. This app is available on the App Store.
