Åsnen is a nature destination worth experiencing – and photographing! There are endless opportunities for a fantastic photo. There are unique places and objects found nowhere else in the world, beautiful panoramic views and exciting flora and fauna. If you have your camera ready, you might get a shot of one of Åsnen’s Big Five… Here we’ve listed a number of ‘photospots’ that are worth a visit.

THE NATIONAL PARK ENTRANCES

The entrances are like gateways to the national park with nice rest areas with a harmonious design. The wooden shelters at the Sunnabro and Trollberget entrances are iconic images from the National Park and the destination. Their distinctive shape is a hallmark of Åsnen and a must for any visitor’s photo archive.

Trollberget

Trollberget is a family favourite, but for the adventurous photographer this is a unique ‘photospot’. Trollberget is an exciting and magical place where giant boulders form crevices and a small walkway. Here you might get a jump shot or two…

THE CAROLEAN OAKS IN BJURKÄRR

It’s not just the beech trees that have star status in Bjurkärr. Here you’ll find the famous Carolean oaks! They really stand out with their tall, straight trunks, which give the impression that they reach the sky. History tells us that they date back to the soldiers of Charles XII, the Caroleans. They are said to have carried acorns in their pockets, which they brought with them to places like Småland in the 18th century. Carolean oaks can be seen in a number of places in the area. This particular one is on the yellow hiking trail. Make a detour here for a photo!

LUNNABACKEN LOOKOUT

At the top of Lunnabacken, the island world of Åsnen lays literally at your feet. The panorama of fjords, islets and open water is framed by fruit trees and meadow flowers. The breathtaking view from Lunnabacken is one of Åsnen’s must-sees!

FAMNTAGET (THE EMBRACE) IN BJURKÄRR

Bjurkärr is the lungs of Åsnen, and it’s here you’ll find Sweden’s most precious deciduous forest. The beautiful foliage sparkles green in spring and summer. In Bjurkärr, the orange hiking trail leads you past nature’s embrace. It’s easy to understand how this place got its name, as it’s here the beautiful beech tree spreads its branches to embrace the handsome pine.

THE BLIDINGSHOLM BRIDGE

The stone arch bridge in Blidingsholm is roughly 70 metres long and spans River Mörrum. The bridge has eight arches and is one of the longest and most beautiful stone bridges in the county. A perfect place for a photo!

DOLDA FALLET (THE HIDDEN FALL)

Here, the water is heard before it is seen, hence the name hidden fall. Cool your feet after the walk and relax on the sun-warmed stones. A great place for a break and to take photos.

THE SWING BRIDGE at ULVÖ

A piece of cultural history and a monument of early industrialism. Today it’s part of the Banvallsleden Trail and a perfect place for a photo or two.

BLODBERGET (THE BLOOD MOUNTAIN)

Look out over the fiord Skatelövsfjord: the view is magnificent and makes for an excellent photospot. According to the legend of Blenda, the mountain has a bloody past; read all about it in the story cupboard at the foot of the mountain.
