On the eastern side of the park, at the Sunnabron entrance, you’ll find Bjurkärr, an ancient broadleaf forest with beech, oak, hazel and birch. It is also home to the famous Carolean Oaks, believed to have grown from acorns brought back from Poland by Swedish soldiers in the early 18th century. The largest beech tree measures around 95 cm in diameter, and some trees reach heights of up to 35 metres. The forest has remained largely untouched and has the character of primeval woodland. It is especially renowned for its rich diversity of lichens, fungi and insects that depend on dead wood.

On the western side of the park lies the legendary Trollberget (”Troll Mountain”), offering an enchanting forest walk that is especially popular with families. According to local folklore, trolls and other mythical creatures hide behind every rock. Throughout the national park you’ll also find several picnic and barbecue areas with tables and benches, making it easy to enjoy a meal or coffee surrounded by nature.
